Tara Gannon
Tara is a clinical psychologist and board approved supervisor who alongside Amy Joyce established Focused Psychology.
Tara draws on more than 13 years of clinical psychology practice in adult and youth mental health settings to achieve the best possible outcomes with her clients. Establishing a genuine and robust connection with her clients is fundamental to Tara’s work, which then allows therapy work to progress as a collaboration. Tara aims to assist all clients better understand their own minds, the mental states of others and work towards resolving any unhelpful patterns of behaviour. Tara hopes her clients leave sessions with a feeling of being understood, valued and respected and feel able to be themselves in the therapeutic space.
Tara is trained in a range of evidence based therapies and often talks with clients about the best matching approach for their individual needs and stage of change. Tara is particularly interested in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Focused Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and attachment based models.
Tara is passionate about working with complex and multiple problem presentations including but not limited to:
- Body image and eating disorders
- Complex trauma and PTSD
- Interpersonal difficulties
- Personality disorders
- Anxiety disorders (including OCD)
Tara also has a strong interest in clinical supervision and secondary consultations to service providers.
